David LeClair was principal tuba player and double bassist in the Basel Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2020. From 1982 to 1997, he was principal tuba player and double bassist with the Basel Radio Symphony Orchestra, and from 1977 to 1982, principal tuba player and double bassist with the Bavarian State Theatre at Gärtnerplatz in Munich. From 1983 to 2021, he taught tuba, euphonium and chamber music at the Basel University of Music, part of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), and at the music school of the Basel Music Academy.
In 2006, his solo CD featuring several of his own compositions, which have since been published by Obrasso, was released under the label ‘Grammont Portrait’. In recent years, he has composed new scores for the silent film classics Battleship Potemkin and Pandora's Box, which premiered at the Stadtcasino Basel and Stadtkino Basel, respectively.
